There are plenty of great YouTube channels for filmmaking - from tutorials, reviews, technical demos to more high-minded academic discussions, here are some of my favourites below.
Film reviews: @RedLetterMedia are great at dissecting all the latest blockbusters, cult movies, worst movies and indie darlings. Their classic Star Wars reviews still hold up to this day despite being more than ten years old. Camera reviews: @geraldundone cannot be beaten for depth and simplicity. Every time I look at a camera, his channel is my first port of call. Filmmaking tutorials: @filmriot have always been my favourite tutorial destination. Ryan Connolly and his crew make for entertaining, succint and polished viewing. I always learn something from these guys. Cinematography: @InDepthCine manages to explain extremely complex technical information in a way that focuses on the art of cinematography, with videos that are not only well-informed but extremely well-crafted. Photography & SLRs: @cammackey is a talented photographer and filmmaker. I love that he talks about gear in the context of a particular job or genre, rather than getting lost in lust for technology. His videos look amazing. |
